ICAR–Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur, in collaboration with Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Ranchi, organised a one-day training-cum-input distribution programme on ‘Improved Citrus Production Technology’ under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) and Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) schemes.
Dr. Dilip Ghosh, Director, ICAR-CCRI, highlighted the importance of citrus cultivation as a key component of integrated farming practices. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ghosh stressed the pressing challenges of citriculture in the region and called for focused efforts on technology transfer, capacity building, and bridging knowledge gaps to boost productivity. He urged the participating farmers to act as ambassadors of ICAR-CCRI, sharing knowledge and innovations with their communities. Dr. Ghosh also reiterated the institute’s strong commitment to outreach initiatives that promote sustainable citrus cultivation and improve the livelihoods of socially disadvantaged farmers.

At the valedictory session, Dr. Ghosh distributed battery-operated spray pumps and quality citrus planting material to the farmers, inputs expected to enhance both efficiency and productivity in citrus farming. The programme drew participation from more than 300 tribal and Scheduled Caste farmers from Ranchi and adjoining areas.
A notable feature of the event was the establishment of a demonstration block with six improved citrus varieties at the KVK Experimental Farm. Envisioned as a model orchard, it will provide farmers with practical exposure to modern cultivation practices, improved varieties, and scientific orchard management.
The training-cum-input distribution programme not only equipped tribal and Scheduled Caste farmers with skills and knowledge but also instilled confidence and self-reliance. With continued support and guidance from ICAR-CCRI, the initiative is expected to strengthen citrus-based livelihoods in Jharkhand and position Ranchi as a potential hub for citrus production in India.
