KVK Dhalai, Salema, conducted a significant Workshop on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights (PPV&FR Act) and Input Distribution Programme to enhance farmers’ awareness of their rights and the legal provisions governing the protection of plant varieties in India.
The Chief Guest Shri Ratan Lal Nath, Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Power and Election Department, Government of Tripura, highlighted the vital role of the PPV&FR Act in safeguarding farmers' traditional knowledge and innovations. He also commended KVK Dhalai for organizing a highly relevant and farmer-centric programme.
Smt. Swapna Das Paul, MLA, Surma Constituency; Shri Sambhu Lal Chakma, MLA, Chawmanu Constituency; and Shri Chitta Ranjan Debbarma, MLA, Ambassa Constituency, attended as Special Guests.

Other distinguished guests included Shri Anadi Sarkar, Saha-Sanhadhipati, Dhalai Zilla Parishad; Smt. Dipti Deb Rakshit, President, Agri Standing Committee, Dhalai Zilla Parishad; Shri Pratiram Tripura and Shri Subhash Ahir, Eminent Social Activists; Shri Bimal Debbarma, Chairman, BAC, Salema Block; and Shri Nani Kar, Vice Chairman, Salema Block.
Senior officials such as Sri Rajib Ghosh, Deputy Director, Horticulture, State Horticulture Research Complex, Nagicherra; Sri Bidya Mohon Chakma, Deputy Director, Agriculture, Dhalai; and Sri Parimal Debbarma, Deputy Director, Horticulture, Dhalai, also participated, contributing technical insights to the discussions.

As part of the Input Distribution Programme, the Minister distributed potato seeds, vegetable seeds, agricultural machinery, and other essential inputs to farmers. In a noteworthy gesture, he also handed over Certificates of Registration issued by the Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights Authority, providing legal recognition and protection to farmers’ newly developed or existing plant varieties.
All dignitaries appreciated the proactive initiatives of KVK Dhalai and acknowledged its continued efforts to empower farmers through training, awareness programmes, and timely input distribution. They encouraged farmers to make full use of the PPV&FR Act and adopt improved agricultural technologies for enhanced productivity and income.
The event drew an impressive participation of nearly 500 farmers.
