ICAR–National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow celebrated the 98th Foundation Day of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research today. Scientists, technical officers, staff and researchers attended the live telecast of the ICAR Foundation Day national programme held in New Delhi, where Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan delivered the Foundation Day address.
During his address, Minister presented a transformative vision for "Viksit Bharat 2047", emphasizing that the path to a developed India lies through developed agriculture and prosperous farmers. The Minister urged ICAR institutes to contribute transformational innovation under the "One Institute–One Grand Innovation" initiative, develop 100 Climate Smart Villages, extend ICAR technologies to 10 crore farmers, strengthen digital knowledge dissemination through an ICAR Open Digital Knowledge Platform, and accelerate the translation of research into technologies that directly benefit farmers. The Agriculture Minister also stressed quality-driven production, climate-resilient agriculture, and innovation-led self-reliance, while inspiring scientists to dedicate their research towards national development and farmers' welfare.
As part of the celebrations, ICAR-NBFGR organized ICAR Foundation Day programme at the Live Fish Germplasm Resource Centre, Lucknow. Dr Kajal Chakraborty, Director, ICAR-NBFGR, distributed quality fish seed to fish farmers and addressed the gathering.
Dr Chakraborty emphasized the Bureau's continued commitment towards the conservation, development and sustainable management of aquatic genetic resources, and augmenting the livelihoods of fish farmers.
The programme also featured an awareness lecture on sustainable aquaculture practices. In support of the nationwide environmental campaign "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam", all staff members enthusiastically participated in a plantation drive, symbolizing the Bureau's commitment to environmental conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development.
