ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam celebrated 98th ICAR Foundation Day under the theme “Reimagining Agriculture for Viksit Bharat @ 2047” with a day-long programme on today at M.S. Swaminathan Hall, commencing with a plantation drive led by the Director and staff of the Institute.
Delivering the keynote lecture on ‘Youth and Skill Development’, Dr G. Kadirvel, Director, ICAR RC NEH, Umiam, emphasized the pivotal role of youth in the development of the North Eastern Region and underscored the importance of equipping them with relevant skills to meet emerging opportunities. He highlighted that agriculture and allied sectors, including farming, animal husbandry, horticulture, production, processing, and value chain development, offer immense potential for sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
Dr Kadirvel further stated that entrepreneurship development presents promising career opportunities for unemployed youth across diverse fields, enabling them to become self-reliant while contributing meaningfully to the nation's economy. He assured that ICAR remains committed to imparting need-based training and technical support to the youth and emphasized that achieving meaningful outcomes requires active participation and collaboration from all stakeholders.
The programme reflected the Institute's continued commitment towards empowering the youth of the North Eastern Region through skill development, entrepreneurship promotion, and capacity-building initiatives.
