Shri Kailash Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare inaugurated the NACOF (National Federation of Farmers’ Procurement, Processing & Retailing Cooperative of India Ltd.) Organic Food Sales Counter in PUSA Farmers’ Mall at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi today.
In his address, Shri Choudhary emphasized on the importance of organic products for human beings. He stressed on including the intake of organic products in the day-to-day life to keep at bay the various dangerous diseases. The Minister asserted on the need of opening such Agricultural Mall and outlets in different parts of the country as well. Shri Choudhary also highlighted about the various schemes being run by the government for promoting the use of organic agriculture and farming.
Dr. A.K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR & Director, ICAR-IARI outlined about the establishment of PUSA Farmers’ Mall in the campus around 5 years ago. The facility provides the near-by farmers and farmers-related organizations with an opportunity to sell their products. This not only helps the city-dwellers to buy the fresh and healthy products in their vicinity, but also helps the farmers to enhance their income as well. He highlighted about the introduction of NACOF’s stall in the campus.
Shri R.K. Ojha, Managing Director, NACOF underlined the successful running of around 20 stalls of NACOF around the country. He asserted that the initiative aims to provide more profit to the farmers and enable the consumers to buy the healthy and safe organic products at a reasonable rate.
Shri Ram Iqbal Singh, Chairman, NACOF was also present during the occasion.
The farmers associated with the NACOF outlets participated in the event.
