15-day Residential Certificate Program on Integrated Nutrient Management Inaugurated

The 15-day residential certificate program on “Integrated Nutrient Management for Fertilizer Dealers” successfully inaugurated at ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture), Malda. Organized through collaboration between KVK, the Fertilizer Association of India – Eastern Region (FAI-ER), Kolkata, and ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Kolkata, the program aimed at enhancing agro-input dealers’ expertise in fertilizer application and soil health management in promoting sustainable agriculture.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata, underscored the critical role of plant nutrients in ensuring crop productivity, likening them to the lifeblood of agriculture. Recognizing the pivotal role of agri-input dealers, he emphasized the need to equip them with technical expertise to guide farmers effectively. Dr. Dey further stated that the training, aligned with government initiatives, aimed to empower dealers as key enablers of sustainable soil health management and scientific nutrient application, ultimately fostering resilient and productive farming systems.

Dr. T. Damodaran, Director, ICAR-CISH, urged dealer awareness on adulterated fertilizers and highlighted CISH’s fruit varieties and eco-friendly technologies to boost productivity and cut chemical use.

The program brought together 31 participants from the West Bengal State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd. (BENFED), representing the districts of Malda.

The initiative sets the stage for a future shaped by informed and science-based approaches to plant nutrient management, empowering participants with valuable knowledge and skills.
