Brainstorming Session on Climate Science Delivery: Reaching the Unreached

A one-day brainstorming session on "Climate Science Delivery: Reaching the Unreached" was organized at ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad, to deliberate on scalable strategies for delivering climate services to underserved communities.

The session was chaired by Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), and co-chaired by Dr. A.K. Nayak, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management).

Dr. Jat proposed a strategic roadmap for advancing climate service delivery and emphasized a multi-stakeholder approach for reaching the most vulnerable communities.

As part of the programme, Dr. Jat inaugurated a commemorative pylon marking 50 years of the AICRP on Dryland Agriculture, interacted with ICAR-CRIDA staff and IARI Mega University students (Hyderabad hub), and visited the Bhuvan Research Farm at Hayathnagar, where he reviewed ongoing experiments and inaugurated a training-cum-exhibition hall and a climate-resilient Integrated Farming System (IFS) model.

Dr. V.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, delivered an opening presentation to set the context for the discussions. The deliberations focused on a range of challenges and innovations in climate science delivery, including climate information services, seed systems, small-scale mechanization, soil and water management, soil health, resilient horticulture, livestock and fisheries, voluntary carbon markets, digital technologies, institutional frameworks, the role of the corporate sector, and climate adaptation financing.

Over 100 participants, including Vice-Chancellors of PJTSAU and SKLTSHU, Joint Secretary (MoA&FW), Directors of ICAR institutes, and experts from IMD, NABARD, ICRISAT, CIMMYT, BAIF, ITC, IFFCO, Jain Irrigation, NIRD&PR, and MANAGE participated in the event, both physically and virtually.
