ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa participated in the International Stakeholder Engagement Event and Workshop on ‘Decentralising Net Zero through Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Enhancement’ held today at Dona Paula, Goa. The event was jointly organised by IIM Ahmedabad, IDDRI Paris, and BITS Pilani K. K. Birla Goa Campus, in collaboration with the Government of Goa through the Goa State Climate Change Cell of the Goa State Biodiversity Board.

Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI participated as the Special Invitee and briefed the gathering on the critical importance of decentralised Net Zero approaches in agriculture, highlighting the contributions of agroforestry, soil carbon enhancement, integrated farming systems, and biodiversity-based rural enterprises to climate mitigation and livelihood improvement. He emphasized that ICAR-CCARI is committed to achieving Net Zero status by 2040.
The inaugural session was graced by Shri Kamal Datta, IFS (Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Goa), along with Prof. Amit Garg (IIM Ahmedabad), Dr. Pradip V. Sarmokadam (Member Secretary, Goa State Biodiversity Board), Ms. Marta Torres-Gunfaus (Director, Climate Programme, IDDRI Paris), Dr. Levinson J. Martins, IAS (Chairperson, Goa State Pollution Control Board), and Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki (Founder Energy Swaraj Foundation).

ICAR-CCARI’s participation reiterates its commitment to advancing Goa’s climate action agenda through sustainable agricultural innovations and community-oriented research. ICAR-CCARI displayed rice varieties released by the Institute along with local goan rice landraces at the stall during the event.
The international workshop brought together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, academicians, and practitioners to deliberate on decentralised Net Zero pathways, biodiversity conservation, and nature-based livelihood solutions for Goa.
