Brainstorming Session on “Agricultural Water Management in West Bengal: Issues and strategies” was organized by ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore in collaboration with National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Kolkata Chapter today.
Dr. Trilochan Mahapatra, President, NAAS, New Delhi delivered the inaugural address (online mode) highlighting the present-day concern about agricultural water management considering the climate change scenario. Dr. Mahapatra emphasized that the regional chapters must flag the regional problems and have scientific deliberation involving senior fellows, young scientists and students to frame specific guidelines for policy intervention by state Govts.
Prof. Biswapati Mandal, Convenor, NAAS Kolkata chapter delivered welcome address.
The technical session was chaired by NAAS Fellow, Dr. B.B. Jana, Former Professor, University of Kalyani. There were 06 lectures on different aspects of agricultural water management delivered by Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore; Mr. Sujit Choudhury, Executive Director of PAN Network Pvt. Ltd.; Dr. Dibyendu Sarkar, Former Secretary, Department of Panchayati Raj and Self-Help Group, Govt. of West Bengal; Dr. Dhiman Barman, Head, CSSRI RRS, Canning; Dr. B.K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore and Dr. A.N. Chowdhury, Chemist, CGWB, Kolkata.
Basing on the discussion, few recommendations on agricultural water management in West Bengal were provided for policy issues in future.
In total 52 distinguished NASS Fellows, scientists from various ICAR institutes, universities attended the brainstorming session conducted in hybrid mode.
