ICAR-Directorate of Poultry Research, Hyderabad, celebrated its 39th foundation day today with great fervour marking another milestone in its glorious journey since its inception.
The Chief Guest, Dr. S. B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad, highly appreciated the contributions of the ICAR-DPR to the poultry sector of the country. Through the multi-pronged research activities and release of different chicken varieties, the institute is contributing to the nutritional security of the country’s population especially to the disadvantaged rural/tribal population. He stressed that the chicken meat contributes more than fifty percent of the total meat consumption in the country. Further, he added that poultry products are cheaper and affordable for the population. Earlier on the day, he visited different laboratories of the institute and appreciated the research activities undertaken by the scientists. He proposed to strengthen the collaboration in research activities between the two institutes.

Dr. R. N. Chatterjee, Director, ICAR—DPR delivered the presidential address. He highlighted the important contributions made by the institute to the poultry sector in the country through the cutting edge research activities as well as by the institute’s outreach programmes. He also elaborated on the contributions of the AICRP centres spread across the country through conservation of native breeds and development of location specific cross breeds for the benefit of farmers under different agro climatic conditions. He underlined the academic activities of the institute and training of scientific human resources.

The Scientists, staff and students of the institute renewed their commitment to uphold the vision, and mission of the institute in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat 2047.
