ICAR-NBSS&LUP celebrates 46th Foundation Day

27th August 2022, Nagpur

Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, inaugurated the 46th Foundation Day celebrations of ICAR- National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Nagpur as Chief Guest here today. In his address, he emphasized on linking science with new technologies for betterment of Indian Agriculture. He also said enhancement of the linkages and co-operation between ICAR Institutes, State Agricultural Universities and State Departments will strengthen the farmer communities through latest technologies.

Shri Gadkari also released publication entitled, “Land Resource Inventories for Vidarbha Regions for Sustainable Agricultural Development”

Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) was the Chairman of the event. He urged the Scientists to evolve new research ideas and technologies.  Dr. Pathak emphasized on importance of carbon stock and soil health card not only for plant and animals but also for the welfare of human being.

Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management) stated that the Bureau has developed soil resource maps for the benefit of farming community. He also added that the Bureau has defined 20 specific agro-ecological zones of the Country with its 60 sub-regions on the basis of the soil and climate parameters.

Earlier, Dr B. S. Dwivedi, Director, ICAR-NBSS&LUP in his welcome address briefed about the salient achievements of the Bureau.

Dr C. D. Mayee, former Chairman, ASRB applauded the Bureau for developing the soil maps.  He said land resource inventory and land use planning are important for planners to Improve the crop production.
