ICAR-National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata has announced a strategic collaboration with Trident Group to accelerate commercialization of new-age fibre-based home textiles, aimed at boosting India’s export potential.
Dr D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET, welcomed Dr Nemai Chandra Ray, Functional Head, Trident Group, during his visit to the institute.
Dr Shakyawar briefed him on the institute’s developed technologies, outreach activities, and future research directions.

Dr Ray highlighted the global demand for natural fibres and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to meet international market needs. He engaged in detailed discussions with scientists, visited various laboratories, and provided valuable suggestions on ongoing research presentations.
Trident Group and ICAR-NINFET have expressed mutual interest in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaborative research, technology development, and commercialization of sustainable natural fibre-based textile products. The proposed collaboration aims to translate innovative technologies related to linen-inspired cottonised jute, hemp, and linseed fibre blends into commercially viable home textile products for domestic and international markets.

The collaboration will focus on the development of eco-friendly and high-value textile materials by utilizing natural bast fibres through advanced processing, cottonisation, blending, spinning, weaving, and finishing technologies. ICAR-NINFET, with its expertise in natural fibre engineering, fibre extraction, retting, processing, and product development, will provide technological support and research inputs, while Trident Group will contribute industrial expertise, manufacturing capabilities, product development, and market outreach.
The proposed partnership is expected to strengthen the natural fibre ecosystem in India by promoting sustainable alternatives to conventional fibres, enhancing value addition to agricultural residues, supporting rural livelihoods, and contributing towards environmentally responsible textile manufacturing. The collaboration also aligns with national priorities on sustainable development, bioeconomy, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and green industrial growth.
