Mid-term Review of AICRP on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants & Betelvine held

A 2-day Mid-term Review on All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants & Betelvine (AICRP-MAP&B) was held virtually from 16-17th August, 2022.

The Inaugural function of the meet was chaired by Dr. Anand Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), ICAR and co-chaired by Dr. Vikramaditya Pandey, Assistant Director General (Horticulture), ICAR. Dr. Satyanshu Kumar, Director, ICAR-DMAPR and Project Co-ordinator, AICRP-MAP&B was present in the meeting.

Dr. Singh, in his address highlighted the need for trade-based promotion of medicinal and aromatic plants and betelvine (MAP&B) in the country for better economy and prosperity. He suggested to adopt objective based evaluation of the AICRP program. He said that very strict rigour should be applied in identification of technologies under AICRP-MAP&B in order of their reach to the stakeholders.

Dr. Pandey, in his address highlighted need for location specific identification of the good agricultural practices and varieties in MAP&B crops. He said that MAPs are best agents for crop diversification in the country by virtue of their amenability to various biotic and abiotic stresses. He suggested to review financial progress of the center for better utilization of funds.

Earlier, Dr. Kumar in his welcome address presented an overview of research activities under AICRP-MAP&B. The research progress of 26 AICRP-MAP&B centers present across the country was reviewed critically in the meet.
