A high-level Nepalese delegation comprising 14 Members of Parliament and three officials from the Free Youth Democratic Organization Nepal (FYDON) visited the ICAR–Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, today. The visit aimed to gain insights into India’s advancements in agricultural research, education, extension, and policy development.
An interaction meeting was organized at the Conference Hall of the M.S. Swaminathan Library, bringing together the visiting delegates with the Director, School Coordinators, and faculty members of ICAR-IARI.

Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR-IARI, warmly welcomed the Nepalese delegation led by Shri Rajendra Prasad Pande, Member of Parliament. In his address, Dr. Rao highlighted the Institute’s 120-year legacy and its pivotal contributions to Indian agriculture through cutting-edge research, capacity building, and outreach. He emphasized the strong historical and cultural ties between India and Nepal and underscored the shared challenges both nations face particularly those related to climate change and sustainable development.
Dr. Rao advocated for joint efforts in research on climate-resilient crop varieties, smart water management, post-harvest technologies, gender empowerment in agriculture, and the development of frameworks to accelerate the adoption of proven, scalable innovations.
Dr. P.S. Brahmanand, Project Director, Water Technology Centre (WTC), ICAR-IARI, presented an overview of key technologies developed by the Institute.

This was followed by a group discussion, during which the Nepalese delegates expressed appreciation for the warm reception and valuable insights. They also conveyed keen interest in collaborative research on smallholder-friendly agriculture, integrated farming systems, water-use efficiency for upland and Terai regions, and strategies for youth engagement in the farm sector.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured the Nanaji Deshmukh National Plant Phenomics Facility, the Integrated Farming System Model, and the Centre for Protected Cultivation and Technology, gaining first-hand exposure to the Institute’s advanced infrastructure and research initiatives.
