Shri S.K. Pattanayak, Secretary, Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers’ welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ inaugurated the “Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre/ Centre of Excellence” sponsored by National Bee Board, Department of Agricultural Cooperation & Family Welfare at ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi on today.


In his inaugural address he highlighted the significance of bee keeping not only for enhancing the overall agricultural production and productivity of the country but also for rural employment generation, honey and other bee hive products. He emphasized that the beekeeping would be an important component for doubling farmers’ income.
In an interaction with the scientists of the institute, he stressed the need for dissemination of low-cost post-harvest technologies across the country to minimize losses. He also highlighted about development and dissemination the integrated pest and nutrient management technologies for sustainable vegetable production in the country.
Dr. Bijendra Singh, Director, ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi briefed about the ongoing activities and achievements of the institute, and its impact on farmers.
