Shri Satpal Maharaj, the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Irrigation and Minor Irrigation, State of Uttarakhand, visited the ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun today
In his address, he urged to reach out the local masses through media and Doordarshan so that problem of water scarcity in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand could be resolved. He also proposed development of ecotourism or “Herbal tourism”, herbal gardens etc in Uttarakhand, and suggested the use of lemon grass and other medicinal plants for rehabilitation of the degraded land. He urged the Scientists to collectively address the problems of water scarcity in Neelang valley on way to Gangotri and also introduce more fodder plants in the villages as the Government proposed to distribute 30,000 cows in the Uttarakhand villages. He later visited the Institute Museum
Dr. N.K. Sharma Director (I/C) briefed about the research activities undertaken by the Institute and its eight regional centers.
