The ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins & Gums, Ranchi, Jharkhand organized the “Natural Resins & Gums Stakeholders Meet - 2020” at Girijan Co-operative Corporation Ltd., Visakhapatnam today. The meet was organized in collaboration with the Girijan Co-operative Corporation Ltd., Vishakhapatnam and NGOs - Kovel Foundation, Vishakhapatnam; Sahyog, CCN.
The Chief Guest, Smt. P.A. Shobha, I.A.S., Vice-Chairperson and Managing Director, Girijan Co-operative Corporation Ltd. regarded the profitability as the key concern for both the forest dwellers and GCC limited for the collection of Non Wood Forest Products (NWFPs). She shared the major issues in collection; marketing and storage of the NWFPs. Smt. Shobha also briefed about the major causes of decreasing collection of NWFPs like drastic decline of natural resins and gums producing trees in the forest area and shifting of tribes towards the alternative means of livelihood.
Dr. K.K. Sharma, Director, ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi emphasized on the importance of meet and significance of NRGs in life. He stressed on the need to export NRGs in the form of processed or more value-added products for enhancing the foreign exchange.
The senior officials of ICAR-IINRG were also present during the occasion.
