The ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore, Kolkata reported the first record of Sisorinae catfish Pseudolaguvia foveolata from Torsa River, Terai region of West Bengal, India. It extends its distribution range in Brahmaputra drainage, India (DOI: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/24701394.2020.1714605). The Type specimen of P. foveolata, was described from Teesta River, Terai region of West Bengal (Ng, 2005). However, later on, it could not be recorded during the various survey of Teesta, Torsa and other rivers of the Terai region.

The identity of the species has been confirmed by traditional and molecular taxonomy (COI: MF506828; Cytochrome b: MF506829; RAG2: MF506827) based on 13 specimens. Also, a detailed phylogenetic relation of the genera under Sisorinae sub-family and genetic distance within it has been evaluated. These fishes are having food as well as ornamental value and also being exported from the country.
