“Indian Agricultural Human Resources is Second to none in the World in Agricultural Research and to Reaching-out to Commerce”, said Dr Peter Carberry, (Director General, ICRISAT) ,Chief Guest at the 43rd Foundation Day. He added Indian Agriculture is endowed with best human talent apart from many supporting and subsidies programs in place for the farmers in the country. India is leading in agricultural innovations entrepreneurs, startups for formers. Agricultural Research should aim at market-led, and demand-driven products and services to witness farther growth in the sector. Dr. Carberry stressed upon the opportunities in the on-farm and off-farm platforms for doubling the farmers’ income. He called upon strong collaboration between NAARM and ICRISAT for capacity building and improving the livelihoods of small farmers not only in India but also sub-Sahara African Region. Agriculture graduates should aim at career in agricultural research through innovation along with high impact among stakeholders, he advocated.
Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, (Director, NAARM) underlines the need for stronger collaborations between ICRISAT and NAARM to lead the small farmers under south-south collaborations. Dr. Rao explained the forthcoming programmes and strategies in detail across capacity building, Think-Tank role of NAARM in research policy development of agriculture research and education systems in ICAR and NARES.
XV Annual and Special Recognition Awards were given away to meritorious staff members of Scientific, Technical, Administration, Finance and Supporting categories. These awards also covered to their contributions to SwachhataAbhiyan Program Green Energy Mission besides Infrastructure Maintenance in the academy.
Active members planted trees under “Tree Plantation” Programme under “Swachha Bharat Abhiyan” of NAARM.
