Shri Rajendra Singh - The Water Man of India visits ICAR-CAZRI, Jodhpur

Shri Rajendra Singh, known as the Water Man of India visited the ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Jodhpur today. During his visit to the different experiments targeting the optimization of use of water, Shri Singh also interacted with the Institutes’ scientists on the role and up-scaling of improved technologies for saving, reusing and recycling water. He suggested to take the eco-friendly plant-microbe interaction based sewage water treatment plant established in the campus to the Panchayat level through the State Departments as it is based on minimum use of energy. He regarded the agri-photo voltaic system developed by the Institute harvesting water from the solar panels as an innovation that would make solar farming more resilient to the changing climate.

Shri Singh appreciated the concept of crop cafeteria that showcased the performance of different varieties of crops of the region providing farmers with an opportunity to select the varieties suitable for their different farming situation.

Earlier, Dr. O.P. Yadav, Director, ICAR-CAZRI highlighted about the promotion of low water requiring crops and cultivars by the Institute to increase the water productivity in the region. He also emphasized that the Rainfed models of various horticultural crops have been providing higher net income and improved livelihood to the farming community. He stressed that the supply of quality planting materials from the ICAR-CAZRI have been making a huge impact on the farmers’ fields.
