The ICAR-National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner organized an Interactive Meet in Jaisalmer today. The meet was organized under the Network Project on “Characterization of Marwari and Sindhi Camel”.
Dr. R.K. Sawal, Director (Acting), ICAR-NRC on Camel highlighted the Centre’s research activities. He enlightened the participants about the benefits of camel milk in managing / treating the different ailments. Dr. Sawal opined that in the wake of increasing demand of camel milk in the Indian market, a Dairy Unit should be set-up for collecting and transporting the camel milk to the different places as there is also a scope for the diversification into camel milk products.
He emphasized on the usefulness of leather and bone products made from camel in boosting the economic activity in the area.

Dr. Ved Prakash, Scientist, Convener of the Network Project stressed on the need for hygienic milk production for ensuring the better milk quality to the consumer.
The camel herders along with Senior Officials from the State Animal Husbandry Department, Rajasthan and the NGOs related to pasture development participated in the event.
