16th to 22nd August, 2019, Jabalpur
The ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur organized a countrywide “14th Parthenium Awareness Week (PAW)” from 16th to 22nd August, 2019.
The Week was organized in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendras, State Agricultural Universities, ICAR Institutes, AICRP Centres of Weed Management and State Agricultural Departments, NGOs, Municipalities, Railway Departments, etc.
The Directorate organized the Week in the different states of the country.
A plethora of activities like lectures, photo exhibitions, farmers’ meetings, students’ rallies, uprooting of Parthenium, releasing and distribution of Parthenium eating beetles, demonstrations on management, etc., were organized by the different Institutions in the different districts and villages.
The Directorate also organized the awareness programmes in different villages like Guleda, Bhidari Kalan and Bargi besides uprooting programme at DWR campus. A Training-cum-Awareness Programme was conducted at the Directorate on 20th August, 2019.
About 100 farmers, city people, NGOs from adjoining Districts like Balaghat, Nagpur, Narshingpur, Chhindwara, Mandla and Jabalpur participated in the programme.
The stakeholders were distributed about 1 lakh Parthenium eating bio-agents Zygogramma bicolorata with the appeal to release in their localities.
