The ICAR-All India Coordinated Research Project on Weed Management organized the “26th Annual Review Meeting” at Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat from 15th to 16th October, 2019.
The Chief Guest, Dr. J.K. Deka, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat emphasized on the role of changing climate, viz., raise in temperature and erratic rainfall in aggravating the weed problem and weed flora shift at the farmers’ fields. Dr. Deka also prioritized the enforcement of bio-safety and bio-security law for controlling the alien invasive weeds in the country.
The Senior Officials of ICAR-AICRP-WM along with Assam Agricultural University were present during the Inaugural Session.
Dr. A.K. Pathak, Director of Research (Retd.), AAU, Jorhat and Dr. M. Saikia, Director (Research), AAU, Jorhat marked their presence during the Plenary Session.
Dr P.K Singh, Director ICAR-DWR highlighted the role of ICAR-AICRP-WM Project in the crops and cropping systems. He also highlighted losses caused by major weeds in the country. Dr. Singh stated about the working of all the scientists of weed management team with their expertise for enhancing the farmers’ income.
The Scientists of 17 ICAR-AICRP-WM Centres and 3 Volunteer Centres attended the meeting.
Dr. Shobha Sondhia, In-charge, ICAR-AICRP-WM proposed the Vote of Thanks.
