“The facilities like Exhibition Hall provide an insight into the natural fibre crops, right from varieties, agro-technologies to the product development. The centralized collections reflect the role and achievements of ICAR-CRIJAF and are very informative & useful for farmers, students and stakeholders associated with Jute & Allied Fibre Sectors”, said Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR). Dr. Mohapatra inaugurated the Exhibition Hall, Fibre Museum and the Retting Complex Facility at ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibre, Barrackpore, Kolkata today.

While inaugurating the Retting Complex Facility, the DG stated that the microbial consortium-mediated Retting under free-flow water has substantial impact in obtaining best grade Jute Fibre required for JDP manufacturing. He also emphasized on disseminating the various handicrafts and Jute diversified products manufactured by the Self Help Groups (SHGs) to the better market facility for higher income.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore stressed that solar energy based slow moving water retting model can be replicated on cooperative basis by the farmers and the industries which are engaged in export of jute diversified products. He emphasized that the creation of such a facility will improve the availability of quality fibre needed for manufacture and export of jute diversified products.
The senior officials of ICAR Institutes and State Agricultural Universities also participated in the event.
