ICAR-NBSS&LUP celebrates 45th Foundation Day

The ICAR-National Bureau of Soil Survey and Land Use Planning, Nagpur, Maharashtra celebrated its 45th Foundation Day today.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Trilochan Mahapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) appreciated the collaborative partnerships between the Bureau and the State Government Agencies. Dr. Mohapatra urged for ensuring the fast and timely delivery to meet the stakeholders’ expectations. Applauding the Bureau for developing the land use plans for 27 aspirational Districts, the Director General urged the scientists for preparing the similar land use plans for the remaining 85 aspirational Districts in a time-bound manner.

Dr. Suresh Kumar Chaudhari, Deputy Director General (Natural Resource Management), ICAR complimented the Bureau’s two initiatives - development of Standard Operating Protocol to hasten to pace the soil survey through hybrid approach involving predictive soil mapping and traditional survey methods & recently initiated LRI project work in the Bundelkhand region.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. C.D. Mayee, Former Chairman, Agricultural Scientists’ Recruitment Board urged for strengthening the land use planning component with pragmatic considerations and socio-economic conditions.

The Guest of Honor, Ms. Indra Mallo, Principal Secretary and Project Director, PoCRA, Government of Maharashtra discussed the unique collaboration with NBSS&LUP to develop the climate-resilient agricultural practices in the selected Villages.

In his virtual Foundation Day Lecture, the World Food Laureate and Padma Shri, Dr. Rattan Lal, Ohio State University stressed on pragmatic utilization of soil resource database by using the traditional soil maps, based on the genetic soil information and classification to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Dr. Y.G. Prasad, Director, ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research, Nagpur, Maharashtra and Dr. D.K. Ghosh, Director ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur, Maharashtra marked their presence as the Special Invitees during the occasion.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. B.S. Dwivedi, Director, ICAR-NBSS&LUP, Nagpur, Maharashtra outlined the Bureau’s salient achievements.
