The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone - VI, Guwahati, Assam virtually organized the “3rd Annual Zonal Review Workshop of KVKs” from 7th to 8th August, 2020.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) appreciated the KVKs for their dedicated efforts to help the Zone’s farmers in the midst of COVID-19 Pandemic situation. The Director General urged for developing a holistic Action Plan by the Assam Agricultural University, Central Agricultural University and both the ICAR-ATARIs of Zone - VI and Zone - VII focusing on the major areas like IFS, value-addition, early disease diagnostic, promotion of Orchid and Pineapple in the North-Eastern Hills Region. Dr. Mohapatra stressed that it will be helpful in increasing the DFI as well as attaining self-sufficiency in food production in the region. He also urged all the Krishi Vigyan Kendras for working on priority basis to achieve the target of Doubling the Farmer’s Income (DFI) by 2022 as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR highlighted the IFS model’s uniqueness prevailing in Assam and other North-East states which play an important role in uplifting the income of small and marginal farmers. He also stressed upon the importance of IFS considering 2-3 viable components as per agro-eco system.
Dr. Premjit Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal, Manipur stressed on including the short duration varieties of Rice developed by the CAU suitable for crop intensification in the North-Eastern Hills Region.
Dr. A. Bhattacharyya, Vice-Chancellor, Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, Assam highlighted the various activities undertaken by the KVKs of AAU like APART, RKVY, NEH component, etc., in addition to the mandated activities.
Earlier, Dr. A.K. Tripathi, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone - VI, Guwahati, Assam welcomed the dignitaries.
Dr. Randhir Singh, ADG (Agricultural Extension), ICAR proposed the vote of thanks.
A total of 46 Heads of KVKs under Zone - VI participated in the Webshop.
