Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra , Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR) inaugurated three-day (14-16 June, 2016) NICRA expert committee meeting here today.


In his inaugural address, he urged to develop mechanisms to monitor the implementation contingency plans and indicated the adaptation and mitigation of agriculture systems through better integration of crop, NRM, livestock, poultry and fishery sectors. He suggested to document lessons learnt from NICRA-Climate resilient villages.
Dr. K. Alagusundaram, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Engineering) appreciated custom hiring centers established in NICRA villages and highlighted the utilization of ITKs in climate change adaptation.
Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-CRIDA made presentation on overview of NICRA and its progress since inception. He presented on various outputs and outcomes of the projects, and technologies channeling to other national programs like NMSA, PMKSY, Water Mission, Himalayan Mission, State Dryland Missions. He highlighted the contingency plan interface with State Governments establishment of 151 climate resilient model villages and to expand horizontally through various national and station programme.
Dr. SM.Virmani Chairman, Expert Committee meeting presented the background of global climate change negotiations and also highlighted the need for strong back ground analysis of agro ecosystem for project proposals under NICRA.
Senior officials of ICAR and Principle Investigators of Projects participated in the meeting.
