International Training Post-Harvest Management of Cotton Inaugurated

A two-week (Jan 12-25, 2013) Training cum Exposure Programme on “Post-Harvest Management of Cotton and Value Addition to Crop Residue” under Technical Assistance Programme (TAP) for Cotton for select African Countries - Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Malawi, Nigeria and Uganda was inaugurated at Ginning Training Centre of Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (CIRCOT), Nagpur on 13th Jan, 2013.

The programme is being supported by Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India for the cotton sector in those countries and is aimed at providing development support and country-specific solution related to production, processing and value addition to cotton. The programme intends to strengthen human-resource in post-harvest management of cotton and in use of the crop residue in those countries.

The Chief Guest, Dr. K. K. Singh, ADG (Process Engg.) in his inaugural address hoped that participants would gain expertise from the lectures, demonstrations, trainings, discussions and deliberations to be held during the programme. Dr. S. K. Chattopadhyay, Director, CIRCOT in his welcome address stated the training has been designed keeping in view of the needs of the African countries. CIRCOT will share its experience on post-harvest management of cotton with special emphasis on cotton ginning and value addition to cotton stalk.

In all thirty-one delegates, which includes professionals from government and private sector, policy makers, producers, production technologists, scientists, entrepreneurs from different African Countries are taking part in this programme.
