Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board (ASRB) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research celebrated its 40th Foundation Day at Dr. B.P. Pal auditorium, IARI, New Delhi.
Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, Former Director General, ICAR and Chief Mentor, M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation delivered the Foundation Day Lecture as Chief Guest. While sharing satisfaction over developments and accomplishments by the ASRB, Dr. Swaminathan said that ASRB plays custodian role for future of agricultural growth in the country. He said that combination and synergy of scientists and farmers is the key for agricultural development and suggested ASRB to create a database for farmer-scientist interaction.
Dr. Swaminathan also emphasized upon the need of International Agricultural Research Service Cadre and Regional Cadre with part of current ARS Cadre. He also shared his reminiscences on earlier days and ASRB’s important role in qualitative development of agricultural research in the country. Chief Guest also released the ASRB compilation ‘Journey in Talent Search-Glimpses’ on the occasion.
In his Presidential Address, Dr. R.S. Paroda, Chairman, Trust for Advancement of Agricultural Sciences (TAAS) appreciated ASRB and said that in the largest national agricultural research system (ICAR) ASRB plays an important role. He also stressed upon the need of new people in research system and cooperation between ASRB and other institutions to attract and retain youth in agriculture.
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR and Dr. H.S. Gupta, Director, IARI were also present on the occasion and delivered their valuable remarks.
Earlier, Dr. Gurbachan Singh, Chairman, ASRB welcomed the dignitaries and presented the ASRB report, while Dr. S.K. Bandyopadhyay, Member, ASRB introduced the Foundation Day Speaker and other dignitaries.
Dr. V.N. Sharda, Member, ASRB proposed the vote of thanks.
