Dr.Swapan Kumar Datta, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR inaugurated the Mite Repository at the National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Insects, Bengaluru today



Dr. Abraham Verghese, Director, NBAII welcomed the guests and briefed about the facility. The repository caters to the modern research needs in mite collection, taxonomy, and characterization. In future NBAII hopes to provide identification services of mites. Mite collections at NBAII include important species like Tetranychusurticae, T. ludeni, Amblysiussp. Neoseilussp. Phytoseiluspersimilis, Oribatid mites etc.
Dr. Datta while addressing the scientists of NBAII stressed that research efforts must be focused on deciphering the evolutionary linkages of mites using genomic tools.
