Skill Development Training programme on Scientific Sheep and Goat Rearing Organised

ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management  organized three days training programme on “Scientific Sheep and Goat Rearing” under SCSP in collaboration with College of Veterinary Science, SVVU for SC farmers from 03-5th August 2025 at CVSc, Garividi, AP. The programme aimed to enhance the livelihood through income generation by having a self-employment activity to women.

The participants gained both theoretical & practical experience on Sheep and Goat farming in business model, Diseases commonly observed in sheep and goat, Feed management and loans and Subsidies of Sheep and Goat etc.

The Chief Guest for the valedictory session, Dr. Gopal Lal, Director, ICAR-NAARM, emphasized the need for alternative employment and income in rural areas, pointing out that income from rainfed agriculture is not always reliable. He stressed the importance of sheep farming to the national economy, as it is sponsored through meat, fiber, and wool production. In fact, sheep farming contributes 8% of the national income.

During the inaugural session, the Goat and Sheep farming booklet was released by the chief guest.

In the valedictory session the critical inputs viz two ram lambs (3-4 months old), a 10 kg concentrated feed bag and training certificate, and training kit were distributed to each participant. To start the sheep and Goat Farming. Additionally, a booklet on the profitable management of intensive sheep and Goat farming was distributed to all the participants.

A total of 20 SC women farmers represented from Vijayanagaram, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam Districts of Andhra Pradesh participated in the programme.
