A group of 25 fourth-year undergraduate students and faculty members from the Faculty of Agriculture, Arunachal University of Studies, Namsai, visited the ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Namsai at Momong to gain practical exposure to climate-resilient agricultural technologies demonstrated at its farm.
During the programme, the students were briefed on the growing impact of climate change on different sectors of agriculture and the initiatives of ICAR to strengthen climate resilience. The role of KVKs in transferring climate-smart technologies to farmers was also highlighted.

The students learnt about district-level trials on climate-resilient technologies in crops and livestock. Key interventions included submergence-tolerant rice variety Ranjit Sub-1, short-duration rice variety Disang, drought-tolerant toria variety TS-38, and integrated farming systems combining crops, livestock, fisheries, and duckery. Natural resource management practices such as mushroom cultivation, vermicomposting, and beekeeping were also discussed as means of sustainable income generation.
Students were also introduced to the use of a leaf color chart for efficient nitrogen management in crops to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. They were informed about various skill development and entrepreneurial opportunities including mushroom spawn production, quality planting material production, food processing, and apiculture.
The programme further addressed the management of Parthenium weed as part of “Parthenium Awareness Week” (16–22 August). As part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, the students planted saplings in the KVK’s green campus, reinforcing environmental awareness and climate action.
The visit concluded with an interactive session and a guided tour of the demonstration farm, where students’ queries on scientific practices and improved breeds/varieties maintained at the KVK were addressed.
