A total of 156 students along with faculty members from the School of Advanced Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur, visited the ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone-III, Kanpur, as part of an educational tour today. On the occasion, a special awareness programme on “Balanced Use of Fertilizers” was organised in the conference hall of the institute.
Welcoming the students and faculty members, Dr Raghwendra Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur, delivered an informative presentation on Indian agriculture and highlighted the role of ICAR and ATARI in agricultural development. He also interacted with the students and sensitised them to the importance of proper fertilizer management for sustainable agriculture.

The students were apprised of the functioning of ICAR and the extensive network of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) operating across the country for technology dissemination and farmer welfare.
A detailed lecture on the importance of balanced use of fertilizers in agriculture and soil health management was delivered, emphasising the scientific and judicious application of fertilizers, soil test-based nutrient management, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) practices, and green manuring for enhancing crop productivity and ensuring environmental sustainability.
During the programme, the students and faculty members actively interacted with the scientists and gained valuable insights into agricultural research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities in the agriculture sector. The participants described the educational visit as highly informative, inspiring, and beneficial.

The students also visited the field units where natural farming practices are being implemented. During the field visit, they interacted with scientists and learned about the multiple benefits of natural farming, including improvement in soil health, reduced dependence on chemical inputs, environmental sustainability, and long-term farm profitability.
The students were further acquainted with the significance of the ongoing Intensive Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers and its role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices among farming communities.
