Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare visited ICAR-National Institute of Research on Jute & Allied Fibre Technology, Kolkata today. He had an interactive meeting with representatives from the local ICAR Institutes. The Minister briefed about the role of Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s (KVK) in betterment of farming community and emphasised that the KVKs should do field extension work systematically so that the farming community gets maximum benefit by the technologies developed by the scientists. The minister focused on Integrated Farming System (IFS) and told to promote this methodology in farmer’s field through KVKs. He stressed upon the digital technologies for rapid improving livelihood of the farmers. While interacting with the scientist and staff of he focused on the technologies that will increase the productivity.
Dr. Goutam Roy, Director (Actg), in his welcome address briefed about the recent achievement of the Institutes. He also highlighted the initiatives taken by the Institute in accordance with the Central Government policies like Mera Gaon Mera Gourav, Cashless transaction under Digital India programme, Swacch Bharat Abhiyan etc
Representatives local ICAR institutes and regional Centres participated in the meeting.
