ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture, Hyderabad organized a comprehensive awareness campaign on soil health management and balanced use of fertilizers at Bakapur village in Vikarabad district of Telangana under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav programme.
The campaign focused on promoting sustainable soil and nutrient management practices among farmers. Scientists highlighted key principles of soil health management, including balanced fertilization, Integrated Nutrient Management (INM), soil test-based fertilizer application, use of organic amendments, and bio-fertilizers.
During the programme, emphasis was laid on the 4R Nutrient Stewardship framework — Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, and Right Place — for the judicious and efficient use of fertilizers. Farmers were also encouraged to adopt alternative agricultural practices such as organic farming, natural farming, precision agriculture, and crop diversification for long-term soil and environmental sustainability.

The programme further emphasized the use of eco-friendly nutrient sources such as organic manure, green manure, bio-fertilizers, vermicompost, compost, and liquid fertilizers to improve soil fertility and crop productivity.
As part of the campaign, a demonstration on seed treatment with bio-fertilizers was conducted to familiarize farmers with scientific and sustainable crop production practices.
Local representatives and farmer leaders participated in the programme and interacted with the scientists on issues related to soil health and sustainable agriculture.
A total of 30 farmers, including 10 women farmers, attended the awareness campaign.
