As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan initiative, ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa organized a community awareness programme on soil health at Karmali village to promote sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices among farmers.

The programme focused on revitalizing soil fertility and enhancing sustainable agricultural production through scientific soil management and eco-friendly farming approaches. Farmers actively participated in interactive discussions with scientists and extension personnel, sharing insights on prevailing agricultural challenges and existing cultivation practices in the region.

As part of the outreach activities, a testimonial video was recorded with Samiksha Shirgaonkar, who shared her practical experiences related to fertilizer application and soil management practices in local farming systems.

The programme also included the distribution of Dhaincha seeds among participating farmers. Technical briefings were conducted on the importance of Dhaincha as a green manure crop and its role in improving soil organic matter, enhancing soil fertility, and supporting long-term sustainable productivity. Farmers were further provided with scientific guidance on recommended cultivation practices and efficient crop utilization methods.

The awareness programme concluded with an interactive group session, reaffirming the commitment of ICAR–CCARI towards strengthening grassroots-level farmer engagement and promoting science-based agricultural interventions for the farming community in Goa.
