ICAR–Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Research Centre, Chandigarh organized a one-day training programme on scientific cultivation of button mushroom today at Jhandutta, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan programme of the Government of India.
The programme was graced by Dr Brij Lal Attri, Director, Directorate of Mushroom Research, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, as the Chief Guest. He addressed the farmers and highlighted the importance and potential of scientific mushroom cultivation as an income-generating activity. He also emphasized the adoption of proper scientific practices for successful mushroom production.
The participants were encouraged to adopt scientific agricultural practices and utilize available resources effectively to improve farm-based livelihoods.
The programme also included important technical guidance on the scientific cultivation of button mushroom, covering proper management practices, hygiene, temperature and moisture management, bag handling, and essential precautions during mushroom production.
A live demonstration on mushroom cultivation was conducted to explain the key steps involved in button mushroom production and provide practical guidance to the farmers. The farmers actively participated in the demonstration and interacted with the resource person to clarify their queries and enhance their understanding of mushroom cultivation practices.
As part of the programme, mushroom bags were distributed to each participating farmer to facilitate practical adoption of the technology after the training. The distribution of mushroom bags provided the farmers with an opportunity to initiate mushroom cultivation at their own level using the knowledge gained during the training.
A total of 60 farmers participated in the training programme.
