The 29th Annual Zonal Workshop of Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Zone-III was inaugurated at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut today.

The Chief Guest of the workshop, Shri Surya Pratap Shahi, Minister (Agriculture, Agricultural Research and Education), Uttar Pradesh, in his address, said that KVKs should develop resource conservation models for farmers. He also said that as scientist KVK should speed up the scientific technology dissemination to the farmer. More work need to be done on sprinklers and drip irrigation system. At the same time multipurpose farming is need of the hour, he emphasized. Shri Shahi urged that the Scientists should come forward with new technology based on the climate change and solve the challenges coming ahead.

The Minister also released the publications and presented awards to innovative farmers and other participants.
Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), the Guest of Honor, said that India has made unprecedented progress in agriculture in the last 75 years. Apart from feeding teeming population, India is exporting agricultural products to other countries, he added. Dr. Pathak accentuated that science must perform in right perspective and extension systems including KVKs are doing this job very adequately. He emphasized that there is a need to develop an Agriculture model combining Nature friendly farming and modern agriculture which should be productive, profitable and eco-friendly. Dr. Pathak said the new varieties and related technologies developed by the Agricultural scientists should to be promoted among the farming community. The Director General exhorted that KVK should come up as the model in the district and therefore, there is need to work accordingly.
Guest of Honor Dr. A. K. Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension) said that promoting Natural Farming is Government's priority. He remarked that early sowing of wheat in Eastern UP is important this year because of lower magnitude of rainfall along with diversification of crop. He informed that 300 drones will be provided to KVKs, SAUs and ICAR Institutes shortly. The related rules and regulation need to be properly followed in procuring drones and according training to the pilot and conducting the demonstrations under drone project. Dr. Singh added. He said Crop cafeteria is face of KVK and it should be well maintained in each KVK.
Guests of Honor, Captain Vikas Gupta, Chairman UPCAR and Dr. Sanjay Singh, DG, UPCAR also addressed the gathering.
Dr. D.R. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, SVPUAT Meerut said that under natural farming project KVKs will conduct demonstrations in 1-hectare area in each KVK. He said each scientist must have one product to popularize in the district. Dr. Singh mentioned that farming of flowers and vegetable cultivation is being promoted in Uttar Pradesh. He exhorted that there is need to work on mitigating the problem of less fodder availability in the state, opening of the women study center and training for rural women.
Dr. U.S. Gautam, Director, ICAR-ATARI Kanpur, in his welcome address, said that the scientists successfully collected and compiled Doubling Farmers income success stories of farmers, success stories of total 75000 farmers were published. He also informed that Government has sanctioned budget for drones in 32 KVKs and 52 KVKs are selected for Natural farming project.
