A brainstorming workshop was organised by ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai under All India Network Project on Fish Health (AINP_FH), at NAAS Complex, ICAR, New Delhi during 25-26 August 2022.

The scientific knowledge and data generated on safety and efficacy of chemicals and VMPs for effective management of fish health, environment and human health were discussed for their possible implementation by different Ministries of the Govt. of India (GoI).
In the presidential address, Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science) highlighted the need for regulatory policies backed by strong scientific data. He also stressed the need for concerted cooperation among the agencies to achieve higher production, supplying quality fish and fishery products both to domestic and international consumers.
The Chief Guest, Shri. Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, GoI emphasized the need to regulate the use of chemicals and VMPs in Indian aquaculture for safe fish production.
Earlier, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, in his address highlighted the efforts of ICAR-CIBA and other Institutes in developing standards for aquatic animal health management in the country.
The meeting was attended by high-level officials from the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Commerce and Trade, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI.,
Dr. V. Kripa, Member Secretary, Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA), Dr. C.N. Ravishankar, Director and Vice Chancellor, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, Dr. Riji John, Vice- Chancellor, KUFOS, Kochi and other subject matter experts in food safety, aquaculture medicine attended the workshop.
Policy recommendations were prepared for effective implementation of the guidelines for the benefit of the Indian aquaculture sector.
