ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organized a training programme on ‘Scientific Goat Farming’ at Kirlos, Malvan, in Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra today.
The programme was conducted under the Institute Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) with the objective of enhancing livelihood opportunities for resource-poor households through the adoption of improved and scientific goat farming practices. The programme was implemented in collaboration with ICAR-KVK, Kirlos, Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra.

During the technical sessions, hands-on training on the scientific management of kids, pregnant, and lactating goats, was delivered with emphasis on proper housing systems, balanced feeding, and routine scientific management practices The importance of record-keeping and biosecurity measures to improve productivity and profitability was also highlighted.
The experts provided valuable insights into healthcare management, including common goat diseases, vaccination schedules, deworming practices, and hygienic measures aimed at reducing mortality and improving survivability and also delivered a lecture on Konkan Kanyal goatand provided information on feed and fodder management practices.
As part of the programme’s input support initiative, a total of 15 goats were distributed among 29 beneficiary farmers to facilitate the adoption of scientific goat farming and strengthen goat-based livelihood systems at the village level.

The programme concluded with an interactive discussion session, during which farmers shared their experiences and clarified their doubts related to goat management.
A total of 29 Scheduled Caste farmers, including 13 women and 16 men, actively participated in the training programme.
