ICAR - Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi celebrated 61st Foundation day here today.
Dr. A. K. Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi, the Chief Guest, delivered Foundation Day Lecture. He highlighted the need of forage and livestock technologies and their extension. Dr. Singh exhorted that the technologies developed must reach the farmers or other stakeholders and should be refined based on feedback. He also briefed about various aspects of forage and grassland development.
Dr. A. Arunchalam, Guest of Honour and Director ICAR- CAFRI, Jhansi stressed on the need for more effective collaboration between ICAR- CAFRI and ICAR- IGFRI to develop technologies for better livelihood options for Bundelkhand rural people.
Dr. N. P. Singh, Vice-chancellor, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda and Guest of honour in brief explained the role of agriculture for development of livelihood options in Bundelkhand and highlighted the need of forage and livestock technologies.
Dr. S. K. Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Gwalior and Guest of Honour highlighted the need of forage seed production supply network for the region
Dr. Mukesh Pandey, Vice-Chancellor, Bundelkhand University, Jhansi and Guest of honor appreciated the significant achievements of the institute especially in terms of publication and varieties and hope of better accomplishments in the coming years.
Guest of Eminence, Padam Shree Dr. B. S. Dhillon, former Vice-Chancellor, PAU, Ludhiana stressed upon need of better coordination among institutes of Maize, Bajra, Sorghum crops with IGFRI with an aim to develop better dual purpose, multicut varieties.
Dr Amaresh Chandra, Director ICAR-IGFRI presented the salient achievements of institute during the previous year. He highlighted development of fertile bajra hybrid technology, development of five high yielding forage crop varieties, technologies for higher production in irrigated and rainfed conditions etc. He also briefed about the significant achievements made by the Institute in various outreach programmes, HRD activities and infrastructure added during the period.

On this occasion an exhibition of technology demonstrations was organized for the benefit of multiple stakeholders. Several public and private sector institutions, FPOs, Seed companies etc participated in the exhibition and demonstrated their activities, success and also products.
Several institute publications including technical bulletins, leaflets in local language and Hindi were released by the dignitaries.
