On the occasion of National Science Day 2026, ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad, organised a programme for school students at its campus in Rajendranagar under the theme ‘Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat.’
Dr. R. M. Sundaram, Director, ICAR-IIRR, addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of celebrating National Science Day. He emphasised the importance of nurturing curiosity, fostering scientific temperament and intuitiveness, and encouraging young minds to embark on the transformative journey of science.

During the programme, a guest lecture on the theme ‘Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat’ highlighted the remarkable contributions of women scientists to the agricultural sector, with special reference to the pioneering efforts of women scientists at ICAR-IIRR in advancing rice research.
As part of the technical session, experts explained the importance of soil testing and the chemistry involved in the development of soil testing kits. They also demonstrated the use of the ICAR-IIRR Soil Testing Kit and provided hands-on training to the participating students, helping them understand the practical aspects of soil analysis.

The students enthusiastically participated in the programme and expressed keen interest in the demonstrations and interactive sessions. The school faculty appreciated the efforts of the organising team for conducting an engaging and motivating National Science Day programme aimed at inspiring young minds and encouraging the next generation towards scientific pursuits.
