A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the University of Ladakh, designating the University of Ladakh as the host institution for four Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs)—Leh-I, Leh-II (Nyoma), Kargil-I, and Kargil-II (Zanskar). The development marks a significant milestone in strengthening agricultural innovation and extension systems in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

The MoU was signed by Dr Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), on behalf of ICAR, and Dr Saket Khuswaha, Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University of Ladakh.

Earlier, these KVKs were under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Srinagar. Following the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, the MoU establishes a revised institutional framework aligned with the region’s administrative and developmental priorities.
