A 5 days National workshop on Natural Fibre based vegan leather and low cost biodegradable flexible composite was organized by ICAR- National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata from March 9-13, 2026, in hybrid mode, under the Consortia Research Platform (CRP) of natural fibres.
The workshop featured expert lectures and practical demonstrations of the manufacturing natural fibre based biodegradable vegan leather sheet and other flexible composites. A training manual was released and certificates were distributed for successful participation.
The event concluded with a panel discussion chaired by Dr D.B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET and it addressed queries on plant set up and commercialization prospects of vegan leather.
The workshop marked a significant step in promoting natural fibre based alternatives of animal leather and synthetic leather.
A total of 15 participants, including entrepreneurs, Academicians, Research scholars have attended even through both online and offline mode.
