The ICAR-National Research Centre on Meat, Hyderabad celebrated its 12th Foundation Day on 22nd February - 2019.
The Chief Guest, Shri Akhil Kumar Gawar, Director, Telangana State Food Processing Society, Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Telangana delivered his talk on the “Future challenges, researchable areas in meat sector”. He also urged the Scientists of ICAR-NRC on Meat to develop the burning socio-scientific consumer need based research projects concerning meat quality, meat industry and policy matters.
The Chief Guest also conferred certificates to trainees for successfully completing their entrepreneurship training on “Value added meat products processing” held from 18th to 22nd February - 2019. Shri Akhil Kumar Gawar also conferred appreciation certificates to scientists and technical personnel for exhibiting the activities in “Numaish - 2019" held at Hyderabad from 1st January to 15th February - 2019.
The Guest of Honor, Dr. Asha Martin, Principal Scientist, CFTRI, Mysuru delivered a lecture on “Ensuring Food Quality and Safety”. In this, she discussed about the importance of foods in nutrition, safety issues associated with them, future foods, role of FSSAI as regulatory body and its food safety related guidelines, etc. The lecture also discussed about the need of collaborative research work between CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru and ICAR-NRC on Meat, Hyderabad.
Earlier, the Director, ICAR-NRC on Meat delivered the welcome address and presented a brief on the institute’s previous year’s activities.
The occasion also held an open day program for the children from various schools located in the Chengicherla. The programme registered a total participation of about 350 students. The demonstrations on food safety by mobile unit of FSSAI, “Food safety on wheels” of Telangana State were also given to the students.
