DDG (Animal Science) visits ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut

Dr. J.K. Jena, Deputy Director General (Animal Science), ICAR, New Delhi visited the ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut today.

During his visit to the laboratories and field activities at Military Farm, Bull rearing unit and the semen processing laboratory, Dr. Jena opined for ensuring the availability of semen of elite Frieswal and indigenous breeds to the various agencies. He urged for making special efforts to obtain the Central Monitoring Unit Certification for the Semen Freezing Laboratory to distribute the quality semen to the State Animal Husbandry Departments and Livestock Development Boards.

While interacting with the scientific and technical staff of the Institute, Dr. Jena opined that everyone must be ready for accepting the challenges of the present day dairy sector and meeting the stakeholders’ expectations.

Dr. Jena lauded the scientists' efforts in evolving the Frieswal breed of cattle. He urged that due to the closure of Military Farms, the involvement of the various institutions and farmers who are engaged in maintaining the germplasm should be ensured in order to rededicate the efforts for improving the productivity of indigenous germplasm of the country.

Addressing the progressive milk producers and entrepreneurs being promoted by the institute for forming a Farmers’ Producers’ Organization (FPO), Dr. Jena applauded the dairy farmers’ and others’ interests in forming an FPO and assuring all the necessary technical guidance from ICAR through ICAR-CIRC.

During the event, Dr. Jena also released the Jingle for the All India Radio Programme of CIRC to be aired on every Friday for the benefit of dairy farmers of the region and one technical bulletin on Dentition in Crossbred Cattle.

Earlier, Dr. Patil, Director, ICAR-CIRC briefed about the Institute’s progress during the last 5 years. He also sought help from the ICAR for getting the land to establish the animal farm and other related infrastructures to conduct the research.
