The Online EDP on “ABS Regulations and Nagoya Protocol” organized by the ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad in collaboration with the UNDP and Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL), New Delhi from 15th to 17th July, 2020 concluded today.
In his inaugural address, Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM outlined the integration of the ABS concepts in the Academy’s relevant capacity building programmes.
Dr. Vibha Ahuja, Chief General Manager, BCIL, New Delhi highlighted the ABS potential of Indian Biotech research sector.
Dr. Alejandro Lago, Project Manager, UNDP-GEF Global ABS Project outlined the overview of the ABS, CBD and Nagoya Protocol.
Dr. Matthew Daas, Programme Officer, CBD, Montreal, underlined the ABS Clearing House Mechanism under the Nagoya Protocol.
Dr. S.K. Soam, Joint Director, ICAR-NAARM elucidated the ABS regulations in the context of IPR, TRIPS and WTO.
Dr. V.B. Mathur, Chairman, National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), Chennai and Dr. Ruchi Pant, Head, NRM and Biodiversity, UNDP also virtually participated in the programme.
The participants were provided hands-on-demonstrations on using the NBA’s online application for ABS filing during the occasion.
