The ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi, Kerala in collaboration with the African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) has virtually organized an International Training Programme on “Advanced Techniques in Fishing and Fish Processing” for the AARDO Member Countries in Asia and Africa from 31st August to 9th September, 2021.

In his inaugural address, the Guest of Honor, Dr. Joykrushna Jena, Deputy Director General (Fisheries Science), ICAR highlighted the establishment of dominance in the global fisheries as the third largest country in total fish production and second in aquaculture production by the Indian Fisheries Sector. The ICAR’s pivotal role in bringing a paradigm transformation in fisheries scenario in the AARDO Countries through technology backstopping with the help of its strong research base and trailblazing technologies that can help in augmenting fish production and productivity was emphasized in the DDG’s address.

The Guest of Honor, His Excellency Dr. Manoj Nordeosingh, Secretary General, AARDO applauded the ICAR-CIFT’s initiative for the capacity building of Fisheries Resource Personnel from AARDO Member Countries even during the challenging times of COVID-19 Pandemic.
Dr. Ravishankar C.N., Director, ICAR-CIFT, Kochi, Kerala underlined the accomplishments of ICAR-CIFT for popularizing its presence at the international level through the various capacity building programmes under ITEC, ASEAN and FTF-ITT, etc. He also urged the AARDO to facilitate the technology transfer process overseas.
About 103 participants from 22 AARDO Member Countries (50 Trainees from 10 Asian Countries - India and 52 from 12 African Countries and 1 from U.S.A.) are participating in the International Training Programme.
