ICAR-IGFRI, Jhansi celebrates 59th Foundation Day

The ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh celebrated its 59^th Foundation Day today.

In his address, the Chief Guest, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) emphasized on developing the fodder technologies to grow the fodder crops in less water, enhance production and maintain soil fertility by balanced use of nitrogen that is climate resilient. This will enhance the farmers’ income. The Director General stressed on the collaboration with the Krishi Vigyan Kendras, Women Self-Help Groups in strengthening the fodder technology dissemination and providing information, advice and training to the farmers for establishing the identity of the Institution at the global level.

The Guest of Honor, Dr. Arvind Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh stressed on the concept of Fodder Bank to increase the availability of fodder crops.

Dr. Tilak Raj Sharma, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), ICAR accentuated on fodder from non-traditional fodder sources, such as, ajola, moringa, thornless cactus and trees.

Dr. Vijay Kumar Yadav, Director, ICAR-IGFRI, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh outlined the development of the several fodder production, utilization and conservation technologies by the Institute that are suitable to different agro-climatic situations of the country. He also underlined the Institute’s achievement in the technology dissemination work through several outreach programmes, such as, Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav, Adarsh Chara Gram & e-Chara Centre, Farmers’ First Programme, Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP), etc.

Around 5 new facilities - Fodder Technical Park and Agricultural Business Inauguration Centre, Swarna Jayanti Chara Vatika, Climate Change Study Facility and Institute Sports Complex were also inaugurated during the occasion.

The Departmental Heads, Scientists, Personnel along with the Farmers and Retired Personnel also virtually participated in the event.
