“The Online Course Mobile App - Matsya Setu will be helpful for the farmers in learning the advancements in the technologies and Better Management Practices at their convenience", said Shri Giriraj Singh, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. The Union Minister was addressing the launching Ceremony of the Online Course Mobile App “Matsya Setu” for the fish farmers developed by the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha today.
Shri Singh stressed that the capacity building of fish farmers will play an important role in spearheading the Technology-led Aquaculture Development in the country. To provide training on the various activities including ornamental fisheries, seaweed culture, module on feed preparation and post-harvest value-addition, etc., was also emphasized in the Union Minister’s address.


During his interaction with the Progressive Fish Farmers from the various states of the country, Shri Singh opined the successful farmers for sharing the videos of 1 to 2 minutes of their projects implemented. The Union Minister urged for popularizing the App widely to enable it to reach every fish farmer in the country.
Shri Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying along with Shri J.N. Swain, Secretary, Department of Fisheries, Government of India and Senior Officials of the Department of Fisheries were also present during the occasion.
The App has Species-Wise / Subject-Wise Self-Learning Online Course Modules in which the basic concepts and practical demonstrations on breeding, seed production and grow-out culture of commercially important fishes like carp, catfish, scampi, murrel, ornamental fish and pearl farming, etc., are explained in depth by the renowned Aquaculture Experts. The Modules have been divided into small Video Chapters for the learners’ convenience along with additional learning materials.
On successful completion of each Course Module, the learners get an auto-generated e-Certificate. The farmers can also clear their doubts and get specific advisories from the experts through the App.
The App developed in association with the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad aims at disseminating the latest Freshwater Aquaculture Technologies to the aqua farmers of the country.
